Week 15

Sorry for the delay this week. I was away for the long weekend and have only just got round to doing this.

Lots of finishing work being done. So much, in fact, that it's hard to keep it all straight. Anyway, here are all the highlights I noticed.

Outside the sliding door, the step is being formed. Nothing to see so far, but it should be done this week.

The kitchen is done! All that remains is to repair the fridge (happening Friday) and move it back into its spot. The granite inlay above the range has an area of scuffing around it. The granite fabricators are coming out on Saturday to fix it. The wood inlay for the island fridge needs to be ordered and won't get done for a couple of weeks.

The downstairs bath is almost complete. The faucets need to be put in, as does the toilet accessories. The washer and dryer should be moved back in this week as well.

Most work to be done is in the guest bath. Tiling is hard at work and should be finished this week. No sign of the fish and a search party has been dispatched.

The master bath is also complete. Just a few fittings to be put in. The vanity lights are on order and should be installed within a week or so.

Week 14

Finally, we start to see progress again.

Unfortunately, there's always something that needs to be done. When we pulled the fridge out of the kitchen, there was condensation pooled on the floor. I've procrastinated long enough and now it's time to get it sorted out. The service guy comes out on Monday. Hopefully, it's an easy fix.

The kitchen is almost done. This week saw the electrical work being finished, the plumbing finished and the floor got a second coat of varnish. They've also started putting in the appliances, hence the need to get that fridge looked at. As best as I can tell, all that's left is to put in the remaining appliances, put in the rope light, drill a hole for the microwave power cord and polish up that coat of varnish.

Also nearly done is the downstairs laundry room. The water heater went in, as did all the lights and switches. All that remain are the faucet, mirror, sink and toilet.

Ah, the bane of my life. The guest bath. I've been told that the glass tiles for here arrived this week - only four weeks late - and that work will start next week. It's much smaller than the master and the tiling is less complicated, so tiling should be finished more quickly. The only action here this week was the addition of the mirror and the ceiling fan.

The mirror in the guest bath takes up the whole wall

The master bath, however, is looking good. With the exception of a few bits - toilet, faucets, shower head, vanity light - this is done. Most of the shower fittings were added and the tiling was completed. We're going to put a strip of carpet in the gap between the tiles and the existing carpet.

I also met with Doug, the painter, to go over the finishing work to be done. We listed it all out with the understanding that he may need to come in after I move back in to finish off a few things that I notice later. He took the doors away so he can do them at home. Who'd have thought that house painters get homework too!

Week 13

Not much to show this week. All activity seems to be with the electrical in the kitchen. Most of the sockets are now in, including some nice black ones on the backsplash. The under cabinet lights are in. The floor has been snaded and had its first coat of varnish. The extraction hood has been installed.

Hopefully next week will see tiling started in the guest bathroom. the plumbe ris supposed to be coming in, so maybe some of the fittings will be added.
